MARSEILLE: THE EFFERVESCENT CITY WITH THE BOOM IN TOURISM AND INDUSTRY, THE SIGNIFICANT EUROMÉDITERRANÉE URBAN RENEWAL PROJECT AND THE CITYS STATUS AS EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2013, MARSEILLE IS A PROMISING CITY WITH A GLOWING FUTURE UNDERGOING AN IMPORTANT AND EXTRAORDINARY TRANSFORMATION. MARSEILLE-PROVENCE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2013 2013 will be marked by concer ts, parades, exhibitions and many other cultural events that will celebrate Marseille-Provence 2013.The status of European Capital of Culture 2013 is a trigger for a host of festivities and will bring to the fore Mediterranean culture to promote cultural heritage and attract both French and international visitors to the city. EUROMÉDITERRANÉE Euroméditerranée is a national initiative of great impor tance, designed to place Marseille on a par with the biggest European capitals. Its aim is to generate economic, social, and cultural development while observing the principles of sustainable development. This large-scale project is set up to renovate numerous infrastructures, businesses, hotels, offices and public areas. A BOOMING CITY • Professional Conventions Over the last 10 years Marseille has become an increasingly attractive destination for French and European business travellers. In 2009, Marseille had

moved to 87th place on the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) list of convention locations, (its previous ranking was 150th in 2007). In 2010, the city hosted more than 900 convention days, 370 events and 83,500 par ticipants. • International tourism. With the increase in leisure cruises, Marseille is to the forefront in international tourism. In 2010, the city welcomed over 710,000 cruise passengers, an 11% increase on 2009.These results show the growth of this industry in the Phocean city, with more and more companies choosing to make it a primary por t of call. MARSEILLE, THE GATEWAY TO PROVENCE Marseille has an exquisite coastline and an exceptional climate, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year.
